Increasing fresh cow performance with a stable dry cow and close up metabolism
The transition period (3 weeks before to 3 weeks after calving) is crucial for the successful preparation of dry cows for easy calving and a smooth start into lactation. This period is often regarded as a critical phase, as the need for energy and amino acids increases during this time, while feed intake decreases. This can result in a negative energy and protein balance, causing cows to lose body mass and develop metabolic disorders such as ketosis. The immune system also has a very high energy and nutrient requirement in this phase (high-quality protein sources, vitamins, trace elements, etc.). Optimal management and a well calculated close up cow diet that is specifically adapted to the cow’s needs can lay the foundation for a smooth calving process and successful lactation. The transition period should therefore be seen less as a critical phase and more as an opportunity.
Important goals for the transition period:
-
- high feed intake before and after calving
- low body mass loss and high fertility
- improved immunocompetence
- reduced inflammation
- avoidance of metabolic diseases
- high fresh cow and long-term performance after calving
How to achieve these goals?
At least 3 weeks preparation for calving with our special mineral feed for close up cows Browser® Close Up 2.0 or Browser® Close Up 30:
- for a palatable ration and high feed intake
- for an optimal supply of vitamins and trace elements
- for a low DCAD-diet with highly available calcium and magnesium to prevent milk fever
Targeted use of amino acids (methionine and lysine) 3 weeks before to 3 weeks after calving with the liquid supplement Browser® K70 A2:
- for constant body conditions
- for liver relief and reduced inflammation
- for improved protein quality and high milk yields
