New options for calculating rations for cattle
AHRHOFF has been working intensively on the topic of “Precision Feeding” since the end of 2016. The ration calculation for cattle herds should be more precise than before. The CNCPS model used for this purpose offers the advantage of a more needs- and performance-based feeding and improved feed efficiency. For several years already, the CNCPS model has become a valuable daily tool for our team in terms of a more precise ration calculation.
A major advantage of ration calculation using the CNCPS model is the accuracy of the performance prediction from a given ration. The latest analytical methods help to better assess the basic and purchased feedstuffs. The basis for this is, among other things, the consideration of the digestibility of the individual fiber and protein fractions as well as the starch in the feed used by the animal at different timepoints. This brings us significantly closer to the real potential of the ration components. Using CNCPS, more precise predictions can be made about when which nutrients are available to the digestive tract and what performance we can expect. In addition to the digestibility of the feed components used, the CNCPS model also takes into account animal data and environmental parameters, which were not taken into account in previous calculations but have a major influence on the cattle’s nutrient requirements, in order to calculate the ration more accurately.
By using the shaker box to assess the structural distribution of the ration, it is possible to link theory (ration calculation) and practicle data (shaker box) and thus achieve an even more precise evaluation of the forages, the ration and predicted feed intake.
The model was developed at the Cornell University in the USA and has become firmly established in practice. It is subject to constant review and further development so that the latest scientific findings are constantly incorporated into the model. This enables us to always formulate rations in line with the latest scientific findings.
Another important part of our feeding consulting using CNCPS is the economic evaluation of each ration via income over feed costs.
