Browser® Silage S is a heterofermentative inoculant consisting of two coordinated bacterial strains for an efficient two-step ensiling process.
The homofermentative lactic acid bacterium L. plantarum converts sugar into lactic acid and thus ensures a rapid and effective pH value reduction for a controlled fermentation start. Unwanted bacteria are suppressed even after the silo has been opened so that valuable nutrients are protected (see Fig. 1a).
This effect is complemented by the specially selected heterofermentative lactic acid bacteria strain L. buchneri. By breaking down sugar under controlled conditions, a part of the lactic acid produced is converted into acetic acid. The lactic acid content is thus moderately regulated in favor of acetic acid. Yeasts and molds are effectively suppressed. High aerobic stability after opening the silo without reheating reduces nutrient losses and increases efficiency (see Fig. 1b).
